Take Pride in Danville

DANVILLE — The Town of Danville Highway Department will sponsor its 7th annual Town Wide Roadside Clean Up the weekend of April 16 and 17. After all the winter snow - you can now see all the trash hiding underneath. Please help to clean up Danville's roadsides and take pride in Danville.

Please join the highway department on Sat., April 17, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Town Hall parking lot to get a trash bag and begin to collect the roadside trash that has accumulated on the side of the road in your neighborhood or anywhere else in town. There will be information and giveaways available at this event. There will be a cloth tote bag available for the first forty residents who stop by on Saturday. If you can not attend or stop by the Town Hall, you can pick up your special trash bag at the Town Hall during regular business hours, Mon.-Fri., or at Colby Memorial Library during regular business hours.

Please fill the blue bag over the weekend of April 16 and 17 and leave the bag on the side of the road and it will be picked up Monday by the Highway Department so there can be an accurate count of trash collected for the EPA Stormwater Report.

If you have any questions, please call the Highway Department at 603-382-0703.

Thank goodness Mayo's Ice Cream was open afterwards! Nice reward.

Sure is pleasant to drive stretches in D'Ville today without trash at the side of the road.

Was great to see the high participation, and it is still going on today.
Going through Town yesterday you could see all of the blue bags. My hats off to all that participate!
Thank you,
Shawn

I absolutely love the idea of taking pride in Danville. I wish the Board of Selectmen did as well. Instead, we, the people of Danville, are without our valued ACO, who had recently done her part to win equipment for us that the department was desperately lacking. Not to mention an overall cut in, like it or not- one of, if not the, most utilized town resources and community centers that Danville has: our library. Alas, no matter how many blue bags are on the streets of Danville during our Spring-cleaning, we just can't seem to get rid of the real garbage in our Town.

The Board does take pride in the Town. Why do you think we do what we do?

Are you looking to change the topic of this thread? As I said before, the ball is in Shelia's court to ask the Board why she was not reappointed, and it would be an agenda item in public.

What are your referring too? The operating budget of the library was passed.

One person's trash is another person's treasurer, and coming from you Tom this has little to no meaning.

Shawn, your grammar and usage of the English language is atrocious.

I am on topic. The topic is "taking pride in Danville". Something that I do not believe crosses the minds of the BOS when making most of their decisions.

I disagree. This thread is about an initiative of the highway department. It's got nothing to do with the selectmen.

I agree Curt, again something positive turned into a negative and totally off subject.

Curt,
When you created a thread with "Take Pride In Danville" as the subject, I assumed the topic was literally "taking pride in Danville". I have already expressed my appreciation of the initiative, you may not have enjoyed what I had to say after that, but I really do not see how I am "off topic". I think taking pride in Danville goes beyond picking up garbage on the side of the road. Taking pride in Danville is an investment in community and perpetuating the efficacy of our small-town institutions for our and future generations, not depriving the townspeople for the sake of a .03 per thousand reduction on their property taxes.
Taking issue with what I have to say because it is my perception is one thing, but to call it "off topic" is a bit silly. At least JC's complaint was accurate, I did say something negative. I just happen to believe that taking pride in one's community goes beyond asthetics.

"Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.". This Greek proverb was not literally about planting trees...

However, for the sake of saying something positive, I will reiterate that I loved seeing members of our community cleaning up the streets of Danville. It was a terrific initiative, and I would love to see more activities like this.

All,
Beth told the Board last night the stats from the clean-up.
193 blue bags were taken, 158 bags collected, and 7 tires.
This was 2x the volume from last year.
Once gain "Great Job!" to those that took part in the event and a special "Thank you" to the HW Dept.

How am I "raining on your parade", safety frog? Was it when I praised the initiative by the Highway Department and our community for cleaning up the streets of Danville, or when I voiced my wish that pride in our town would extend beyond aesthetics and garbage removal? If you think I'm trying to belittle the accomplishment, you're wrong.
