We just got the preliminary numbers over the phone from Casella. I have requested to get the hard numbers and will share them once we get them.

Great Job Danville!

All,
We have 113.18 Tons of MSW and 36.2 tons of recycles in Jan. This equates to a recycle ratio of 36.2/113.18 = 32%. Jan 31 was the Tue pickup day and Wed was 2/1 the other pickup day of the same recycle week. 2/1 was not part of the calculation.

I talked to Casella's and got the 2/1 info of:
MSW = 12.37
Recycles = 5.21 + 2.28 = 7.49

Now the number look like:
MSW = 113.18 + 12.37 = 125.55
Rycycles = 36.2 + 7.49 = 43.69

Recycle Ration of 43.69/125.55 = 34.8%

MSW= Trash as already stated by Curt & Sbin.
MSW does not include trash. The industry uses a ratio recycles/trash, and is what we have shown previously from Waste Management. No matter how you look at it, we are increasing our recycling by 2x.

I think Shawn meant to write that MSW does not include recyclables.

My recycling cart is not big enough to take all my recycling...I end up putting recycling in with the trash each time because it won't fit in the recycling cart. Is this happening to others as well?

If we are having enough people with overflow of recycleables on pickup day maybe a weekly schedule should be considered. This would probably be better than having two recycle carts and most likely cut down on residents putting recycle overflow in their trash. I know for our family(2 people) the current schedule is fine. I like the fact our participation has increased and all this without going to a mandate like some towns have.

We are barely making it fit. I hold off on putting paper in since we can burn that if we have to but I'd prefer to be able to recycle the paper.

I think you can request a 2nd recycle container.
Call Town Hall.
I know I have a recycle container, on wheels, that we bought a Lowe's a while ago.
We put that out with the issued recycle container, and they empty both.
