BRENTWOOD — Four people escaped serious injury Thursday when the driver of a pickup truck suddenly veered into oncoming traffic on Route 125, striking a tractor-trailer truck and forcing another truck to flip over and roll off the highway.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. just north of the South Road intersection. A section of Route 125 was closed for over an hour as police investigated and crews removed the wreckage.

"I'm very lucky, that's all I can say," said a shaken Andre Gagnon, a passenger in the truck that overturned.

The 83-year-old Maynard, Mass., man who was pulled from the truck as it rested on its roof said it was the first time he'd ever been involved in an accident.

"I was upside down and they opened the door for me," Gagnon said as he rested on the side of the highway.

BRENTWOOD — By this time next year, two dangerous intersections on Route 125 will be safer for drivers.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation is planning to install a set of traffic lights along Route 125, at the North Road and Route 111A intersections. The project will include widening the roadway and creating left- and right-hand turn lanes.

Work is slated to begin in the spring and completed in the fall of 2010.

There are currently blinking yellow lights for Route 125 motorists and blinking red lights for drivers on Route 111A and North Road, as well as center turn lanes for the North Road intersection.

Funding for the project — estimated at $600,000 for the Route 111A intersection and $400,000 for the North Road intersection — will come from the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program, which identified the two intersections as priorities.

Now it will take longer to travel up 125 to 101. Along with these 2 lights there will also be the one at the intersection by the Burger King where they are going to put big-box stores out back.
