What is SpeakoutDanville.org?
SpeakoutDanville.org is a place for Danville residents, employees, property owners, and business owners to come together to discuss issues in our town. And for people to find out what is going on.

Is SpeakoutDanville.org affiliated with the Town of Danville?
No, the official web site of the Danville town government is http://www.townofdanville.org

Who is behind SpeakoutDanville.org?
SpeakoutDanville.org is sponsored by an informal committee of four Danville residents, Rob Collins, Shawn O'Neil, Curt Springer, and Alfred Thompson. We would welcome participation by other Danville residents who would like to help develop this site. Just send an email to webmaster@speakoutdanville.org.

What are the features of SpeakoutDanville.org?
SpeakoutDanville.org offers the following features:
  • Blogs (web logs) to allow people to write on a regular basis on varying (town or school-related) topics
  • Bulletin Boards (also known as message boards), for residents to carry on discussions. This includes the creation of polls.
  • Live Chat (schedule and participation to be determined). We will see if we can schedule a candidates' debate for town and school positions.

What are the policies of SpeakoutDanville.org?
Our policies and procedures will be adjusted from time to time as needed:
  • Anybody can access this site, but if you want to post you will need to register. Any Danville resident, property owner or business owner will be allowed to register and post original items or responses to others.
  • SpeakoutDanville respects your privacy. If you want to post, we ask for your email address. This is primarily to filter out spammers and other mischief-makers. In some cases we will also ask for your street address and phone number, in order to verify that you are who you say you are. If you sign up for a news service or other services delivered via email, we need to have your email in order to deliver the service. We will not give out your email address, stree address, or phone number to third parties, and we will not use it for purposes other than those for which it was furnished to us. We do not have access to any passwords that you create when you register for services on this site.
  • You do not need to reveal your name publicly when participating in discussions on this site. You can use your actual name, or you can pick a nickname known only to you and your closest friends. We understand that some people, particularly town employees, might be reluctant to identify themselves when posting comments. Still, we urge people to identify themselves and stand behind what they post, unless they have a really good reason not to. We expect that elected officials, department heads, or other public figures will clearly identify themselves when posting to this site.
  • SpeakoutDanville is a free speech zone. However, we reserve the right to remove obscene, threatening or libelous postings, and to block people from the site if they persist after being warned. Threatening or harassing postings (according to legal definitions) will be reported to legal authorities.
  • This site is intended for discussions about Danville, Timberlane School District, or perhaps regional issues. If you want to blog on about Iraq or intelligent design or whatever, we are confident you can find some other site that would be happy to hear from you.
  • We welcome comments, suggestions, and participation.

Does SpeakoutDanville.org endorse candidates or take positions on issues?
SpeakoutDanville.org is neutral ground. We encourage everyone, including candidates and advocates of various causes, to use our web site to make their case. But no person and no cause will ever be endorsed by SpeakoutDanville.org. That includes the current sponsors and the causes they espouse.

Because we furnish free web space and an audience to candidates, it is reasonable for them to mention SpeakoutDanville to others, publicly or privately. We ask everybody to talk us up. But we ask the candidates to state clearly that their presence on SpeakoutDanville.org is not an endorsement by SpeakoutDanville.org or by the people who participate in SpeakoutDanville.org.
